The Power of Discernment

A couple of weeks ago I attended a political focus group, where I was once again reminded of the power of discernment and thinking for oneself. The group facilitator began by asking the 9 focus group members, "Describe the current state of America with one word." As I'm listening to 'disgusted', 'scared', 'afraid', etc., my word comes to me, 'intrigued'. I was intrigued by the negativity, their comments reflecting current media, and their apparent disregard for the magnanimous amounts of amazing happenings that pass through our lives daily.

I began to see how we, as Americans, often forget the power of thinking for ourselves and entering a state of "pure observation". As a mortgage advisor, when I meet someone new and I tell them what I do for a living, they often portray their condolences and how difficult it must be for me. I quickly remind them of how the media merely emphasizes what sells, and often not the entire spectrum of reality.

How does this apply to individuals working in real estate? The fact that we, too, have the power to create our own business realities.

Are people still buying and selling homes? YES!
Are people still able to get loans with solid rates? YES!
Is every homeowner who purchased a home in the last 5 years upside-down in their mortgage? NO! Not even close!
Is all the negative mumbo-jumbo fed to us our reality? No, as we have the power to create our own realities.

The fact is, when we give out a negative, pessimistic view on the current market, that is what will show up for us in our business. Everyone can feel the negative energy off another. But when we sit in a place of pure observation, we can see that there is plenty of business out there and there exists even more opportunities. When we face the music, see it for truly what it is, we are then able to stand in a place of pure empowerment to create what we want for ourselves and our business. And when we are able to think and create our own reality, we are able to overcome the negative, biased hoopla swirling in the media. We our now able to use discernment with empowerment.

Blog Purpose

The purpose of my blog is two-fold: is to connect and share with fellow members in the Real Estate arena; and operate on the forefront of the social media spectrum as a means of building relationships and business.

Quite frankly, I'm extremely excited to begin blogging and developing online connections with like-minded individuals! I'm newer to the social media arena and after a 3 year hiatus from blogging, so much has changed and I have so much catching up to do!

I'm always open to suggestions, questions, comments and learning about your world.

All the Best!
Tom
